Spring Birding Festivals

DownEast Acadia is a renowned destination for birders. Our 3 different spring birding festivals offer a combination of lectures, walks, and boat tours led by experienced birders to connect birding enthusiasts with DownEast Acadia’s many bird species and diverse habitats, some of them rare and unusual. Wings, Waves & Woods Birding Festival - Deer Isle - May 19-21, 2023. Annual Down East Spring Birding Festival, Lubec area - May 26-29, 2023. Acadia Birding Festival - Mount Desert Island - June 1-4, 2023.

Abbe Museum Indian Market

The Abbe Museum Indian Market returns to Bar Harbor June 2-4, 2023! This multifaceted event will feature more than 50 Native artists working in forms ranging from baskets and pottery to jewelry and sculpture - along with musical and storytelling performances, demonstrations, and educational programs.

Rhubarb Festival

The Rhubarb Festival (June 3, 2023) features a variety of rhubarb-themed activities, including a rhubarb tasting and competition, games for all ages, a rhubarb stalk eating contest, demos on perfecting crusts, planting and caring for plants, and wine-making and mocktail tutorials. Enjoy live local music, and sample rhubarb-flavored foods from local farms and vendors.

Margaretta Days

History comes alive June 16-18 with an encampment of soldier re-enactors and period demonstrations such as blacksmithing, timber framing and weaving, plus Passamaquoddy Tribal members, entertainment (music, storytelling, informative talks, historical presentations, etc.) children’s activities, fun, games, food, and contemporary crafters and artists. The Festival celebrates our community’s unique history as the “Lexington of the Sea”.
